MTS Nano Bionix For the mechanical characterization of small fibres in tension with force resolution of 50 nN and displacement resolution of 0.1 nm. Continuous Dynamic Analysis option allows measurement of dynamic stiffness of fibres as they are stretched over the entire strain range. This system is extremely delicate, and is only to be used by individuals who have been trained by Dr. Fudge.

Features include motorized zoom, transmitted and double swan-neck fibre optic light sources, rotatable polarizer, and Canon digital camera for image capture. Temperature controlled stage is also an option for dissections that need to be done at lower temperatures.

Applied Photo Physics Stopped Flow Kinetic Analyzer This instrument is used to measure fluorescent reactions in real time. This model has a dead time of 1.1 ms and can effectively monitor reactions over a 20 ms time scale. In addition, the reaction chamber is water-jacketed, allowing for reactions to be initiated at temperatures as low as 0 oC. This intrument is currently being used to study the Ca2+ activation kinetics of a variety of Troponin complexes.
