Ecophysiology of Stress

Grey Squirrels

Urban environments are among the fastest growing and most widely distributed ecosystems in the world, and organisms colonizing these environments are subject to a wide suite of novel stressors and selective pressures.  We are monitoring grey squirrels in and around Guelph and other urban areas to investigate how urbanization impacts the stress physiology, immune function and the behaviour of animals.

Around Guelph you may notice grey squirrels (either the grey or black/melanistic phenotypes) with colour-coded eartags, we encourage people to report their sightings to our citisci website, where you can also find out more information about how to get involved in volunteering with the citisci project.
