Position description: The long-term objective of our research is to understand the cellular and molecular pathways regulating metamorphic development and settlement in marine invertebrate species and thereby gain insights into the patterns underlying the emergence, loss, and maintenance of complex life histories in marine environments. I am looking for motivated graduate students to study the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying thyroid hormone signaling in sea urchin development. The project involves a range of experimental approaches, transcriptomic analyses and functional manipulation of endocrine pathways. Highly motivated students with a BSc degree and honours research experience (or equivalent) will be considered. Candidates with strong background in development, physiology, molecular biology or biochemistry are preferred. The University of Guelph provides an excellent environment for graduate students, with a competitive stipend (http://www.uoguelph.ca/ib/grad/graduate.shtml). Interested students should send a statement of interest and relevant experience, curriculum vitae, unofficial transcripts and contact information for two references to Dr. Andreas Heyland, [email protected]. The position will remain open until a suitable applicant is identified.
